OUR STORY
How Our Company Took Shape
Founded in 1997, B&D Contracting was created by John Bowie and Wayne Davis, two longtime Gulf Coast shipyard professionals who knew the industry and the workforce it depended on. With Wayne’s experience leading shipfitting crews and John’s background in HR and safety, they set out to build a staffing company capable of consistently supplying qualified, reliable craftsmen.
B&D began by providing labor to local shipyards and quickly expanded into Mississippi and Louisiana as client needs grew. Following the work across the Gulf Coast, the company built a strong regional presence rooted in dependability and trusted relationships.
Over the years, we’ve blended our deep, hands-on experience with modern recruiting technology, integrating a premier applicant tracking system and developing AI-powered recruiting tools. These advancements have strengthened both the speed and quality of our hiring, ensuring clients receive the most capable workforce the industry has to offer.
Today, with thousands of skilled tradesmen and women in our network, B&D Contracting remains grounded in the same principles that shaped us from the start—hard work, respect for the trades, and an unshakeable commitment to supporting the industries that keep our region moving. Our workforce represents the best of America’s blue-collar spirit, and we’re proud to put people to work so they can provide for their families and build successful careers.
In 2014, John Bowie acquired full ownership of the company, and after his passing in 2022, leadership transitioned to Blake and Brock Bowie, who now carry forward the B&D legacy. Their leadership is hands-on, forward-thinking, dedicated to modernization, and deeply rooted in the traditions and client relationships that have defined B&D for more than 25 years.
Looking ahead, we remain focused on strengthening our recruiting processes, embracing new technology, and continuing to supply the most skilled workforce in the industry—wherever our clients need us next.
